FAQ

QThe doctor is described as a board-certified plastic surgeon, but I cannot find him or her in the search.
A

The Korean Association of Plastic Surgeons is an organization of plastic surgeons in private practice. Therefore, even a board-certified plastic surgeon will not appear in the search if he or she has not joined this Association. In most cases where a doctor does not appear in the search, the doctor is not a specialist. If you are certain that the doctor is a board-certified plastic surgeon but cannot find him or her in the search, please contact the Association office and we will respond to your inquiry.

QWhat does “suspension of rights” mean?
A

The Korean Association of Plastic Surgeons has bylaws that must be observed. Accordingly, there can be various reasons for a suspension of rights, such as a violation of these bylaws or causing public controversy.

QIf a doctor’s rights in the Association have been suspended, can the doctor still provide consultations and perform surgery?
A

The Korean Association of Plastic Surgeons, an affiliated organization of the Korean Medical Association, is an organization of board-certified plastic surgeons with bylaws that its members must observe. When these bylaws are violated, the Association imposes a disciplinary suspension of rights within the Association. Because this disciplinary measure suspends only the member’s rights within the Association and is unrelated to medical accidents or license suspension, it does not prevent the doctor from treating patients or performing surgery. Please note this to avoid any misunderstanding.

QIs it all right to have surgery performed by a non-specialist?
A

Unlike specialists in other fields and non-specialists, plastic surgeons have highly specialized knowledge of plastic surgery of the face and body; they decide on the surgical method by considering overall harmony and perform surgery while anticipating its results. Even in the most common procedures, eye and nose surgery, the method for eye surgery must be decided by assessing the position of the eyebrows, the movement of the frontalis muscle and so on, and nose surgery must also take into account the forehead, the shape of the mouth and other features. It is not simply a matter of operating on the eyes or nose alone. Whether or not to have surgery performed by a non-specialist is your own decision, but to obtain the best result that achieves overall facial balance, we recommend that you have surgery performed by a board-certified plastic surgeon.

QIf a sign reads “** Clinic,” does that mean the doctor is not a specialist?
A

How to identify board-certified plastic surgeons is explained in detail on the main page of this website; please refer to it.
